How to connect to ABB Automation builder/ ABB through Matrikon

Hi!

I’m trying to create an environment with ABB Automation builder and Simumatik.
I’m using a slim version of the Automation builder so the OPC UA option is not an option.

Matrikon is an option but i have limited experience of this software.

Do anyone have any general guides on how to make this work?

Martin

Hi Martin,
Do you know if the Slim version is compatible with ModbusTCP or it has an API?

Hi!

Thank you for your response.
When looking at

I find

“Configuration of communication protocols for TCP/IP, Modbus, CS31, IEC60870-5-104”

“Configuration and diagnosis of unbundled Modbus TCP CI
(communication interface) devices”

For: CI521-MODTCP, CI522-MODTCP

“OPC server tool, license manager, installation manager, PLC
gateway, IP configuration tool”

Does this help?
Any ideas of if and in that case how this could be done?

Best,

Martin

Hi Martin,
After a quick check in your link, I can see that hey mention OPC DA Server (Codesys), which is very old and requires an additional software between Simumatik and the PLC (Matrikon is another option). I Doubt that it works with the basic free version in simulation mode, but we have had customers using it with real PLCs.
Regarding the differences between the different versions, it is quite clear to me that the basic/free version of Automation Builder does not support virtual commissioning, virtual PLCs, etc…
I guess that the included simulator is quite limited just to be able to program code and do some simple testing by toggling variables.
I would say that without a real plc, with the basic version, you are quite limited. But before giving up, you could ask ABB.

Hi!

Thanks!

I’ll run it by ABB and see what I can find. If I find a way I’ll update the thread.
