Softmotion linear driver

Hi,

I was looking at the softmotion example and the linear driver component, and was wondering why it has it’s own connection to a plc?
Now I need 2 opcua connections to the same codesys softplc if I want a simumatik plc and linear driver right?

Wouldn’t it be more logical to create a linear driver with electrical inputs and outputs and couple it to the simumatik plc? Or create a PLC module component to go along the linear driver component?

Hi Stefan,

You ara right, they way the driver is built allows to have a separate connection to the PLC. Internally, if the setup parameters of the communication driver are identical, it will create only one connection in the Gateway, so there is no performance issues having several drivers.
Anyway, I like your idea being able to add the drive to the PLC rack to avoid handling duplicate setups. We can create a new component based on the original one.

Hi Stefan,
We have created and published a component based on the linear drive that can be connected to the PLC Rack, it is called “Linear Driver Rack”. Please, let us know what you think and we hope it makes things easier for you.

Thanks for the quick solution!
